SERVICES: Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Virginia with the Rev. John Doyle as the celebrant. There will be no reviewal. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Virginia. Arrangements are by the Landmark Funeral Home in Virginia.

 

Rafela Chopp Kaner, 83, of Virginia, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at the Virginia Convalescent Center.

 

She was born on Sept. 23, 1916, in Virginia to Nicole and Mary Fragnito and had been a life-long resident. She worked as a waitress at the Coates Hotel in Virginia for 20 years. She was a member of the Virginia Senior Citizens, and was a charter member and the first president of the Northern Club Auxiliary in Virginia.

 

Survivors include two sons, Michael (Sue) Chopp of St. Cloud and Robert (Clare) Chopp of Duluth; one daughter, Cookie (James) Carlson of Virginia; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Michael Fragnito of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; one sister, Mary Brady of Virginia; one brother-in-law, Charles Hlaca of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Victor (Turp) Chopp; an infant son, Thomas Chopp; second husband, Jerome Kaner; a brother, Joseph Fragnito; and four sisters, Manuela Hlaca, Antoinette Eckman, Eda Kozan, and Angela Hlaca.
